Horse and cart outside Grady's cottage in Murrisk, Co. Mayo, Ireland

This is a photo of a horse and cart outside my Grandad's family's cottage in Murrisk, near Westport, County Mayo in Ireland. The Grady family built the cottage in the early twentieth century at the foot of Croagh Patrick Mountain and dug a water main from the mountain spring to the cottage. The old part of the cottage is now a barn and a newer cottage was built as a replacement later in the twentieth century

Liam Carney and Win Crowhurst Wedding

Martin William Carney (Liam) and Winifred (Win) Shirley Crowhurst's wedding photo

This is my maternal grandparents' wedding photo taken in Abbots Langley, showing Liam and Win with my grandad's parents, Martin and Mary Carney, on the far left and my grandmother's parents, Frederick and Rose Crowhurst on the far right. Liam's brother Patrick Carney was best man, stood next to my grandad, and the chief bridesmaid stood next to my grandmother was Liam's sister Bridget Carney. The bridesmaid third from the left was Win's sister Stella Crowhurst. Liam was originally from Westport, County Mayo in Ireland, but he met Win in Kings Langley, Hertfordshire where she had grown up. Win converted to Catholicism so that she could marry Liam in the local Roman Catholic Church when she was just 19 years old. They moved to North London shortly after marrying, but soon moved back to Abbots Langley in Hertfordshire where they brought up their four children.
