About Us

At Nations' Memorybank, every memory matters. This site is dedicated to capturing moments in everyday history. Yours, your family's and your community's.

You can simply browse the site to see what others have to say about their memories, or, if you feel inspired, upload your own.

Take a minute now to record moments in your life for the future. These may be your thoughts about the arrival in your family of a newborn baby, or perhaps your reflections on something else important that happened today.

  • Use the site to save all of your photos and memorabilia from the past in one place, to keep them safe and share them with others.
  • Use our forums to chat to others and share your research, interests and memories.
  • Locate your memories on our easy-to-use map of the UK.
  • If it's inspiration you're after, try our 'Memorymaker', which will take you on a journey into the past.
  • If you need help and advice, then click on our step-by-step guides, which you'll find at the bottom of each page.
  • If you'd like your own personal PIN-protected space, then for a £60 per year you can join our 'Members Zone' and receive enhanced member benefits.
  • Visit our community zones, where you can find information and tips on research, filmed celebrity reminiscences, picture galleries and much more.

At the moment we have six community zones (family, fashion, food, house, local and military). Coming soon are sport, travel and transport, and you can also suggest other areas that you would like to see on the site!

We welcome your participation in creating this unique national resource. Just email us at info@nationsmemorybank.com with any suggestions you may have about how we can improve the site.

We hope you enjoy the Nations' Memorybank experience, and we look forward to sharing in your memories and hearing your feedback.

"The National Archives welcomes Nations' Memorybank."

"We need everyone to help guarantee the survival of today's information for tomorrow, and this project is a big step. The preservation of digital material is an enormous challenge and it is vital that the stories and lives of ordinary people are safely recorded alongside official and published documents. Nations' Memorybank will be a rich resource and will help create a fuller picture of all of our lives; past, present and future."

Archiving at Nations' Memorybank

You have spent time collecting precious and valuable memories, memorabilia and research items. You want to keep them safe, but how can you guarantee that?

Nations' Memorybank offers you the security you need via its cutting-edge archive engine, powered by Hanzo Archives. Their unique archiving software works in tandem with the software we've designed to help you organise your memories on the site, and captures every single item that is uploaded to Nations' Memorybank. These items are then archived and stored on Hanzo's own servers. Furthermore, Hanzo's archive is regularly donated to not one but two major international online resources - the European Archive and the Internet Archive. This means that everything that is entered into Nations' Memorybank is safe and secure, and can be retrieved at any time.

Of course, with the Internet changing every day and technology advancing at a rapid pace, there's always a danger that the way we record information today might not be valid in years to come - Betamax versus VHS, tapes versus CDs, for example. However, our software automatically converts uploads into the latest formats, so all data is current and transferable for future generations.

Nations' Memorybank is not just about preserving the past - it's also involved in shaping the future.
